A historic community that played an important role during the struggles for independence. In the area around the village one can watch rare species of the Cretan flora and fauna. It is a starting point for hikes on the nearby slopes that lead to old monasteries such as St George Vrahasioti and St. George Selinari, or if you are more adventurous you will have the chance to visit a unique oak forest, endemic to Crete, 11 kms NW.
